In order to call a person swastha (healthy), the doshas must be in equilibrium, the digestive fire must be in a balanced state and the tissues (dhatus) and malas (wastes) must work in a normal state. The shloka also emphasises on the importance of having a prasanna (pleasant): atma (soul), indriya (sensory organs) and mana (mind).
It is important to understand that life comes as a package deal. You have to be wise enough to choose what fits the most. Your choices of diet and lifestyle will make or break you. The course of your day is determined by what you do first in the morning. If you start with meditation and exercises, you will feel energetic and lively throughout the day. On the contrary, if you start your day with emails or social media, you are bound to feel the pressure and that feeling is stuck with you for the rest of the day.
It is you who gets to decide whether you read that book that has been lying around in the house or just do mindless scrolling on that phone you are glued to. Whether you start exercising or lay there in bed for half an hour after waking up, is going to have it’s own effect on you.

The best way to inculcate good habits:
- Start small: Break tasks into smaller tasks. Don’t make big plans and then get overwhelmed because it all seems a lot. Set a routine that suits you the most.
- Make a list: Make a list of everything you want to accomplish. Make daily, weekly, monthly and yearly lists to keep track of how things are going.
- Declutter: Remove things that act as obstacles while achieving a particular goal. For example, keep your phone away from your study place. Unfollow that account if makes you doubt yourself. No screentime after or before a particular time.
- Organise: Organise your desk, your side table, your wardrobe, even your kitchen for that matter. Items that haven’t been used for a while or need to be used for special occassions can be stored away seperately.
- Take breaks: Take breaks and do something that will help you unwind. Maybe an episode or a song or a small dance or a phone call with that buddy living miles away.
- Reward: Reward yourself with small things that may bring joy to you. It could be that phone you’ve been eyeing for such a long time, that pen at the stationery store, that purse, that video game, some fresh flowers or something as small as a cup of adrak chai (ginger tea) depending on your prakruti. Remember that your reward has to be proportionate to the work you have done. You can’t spoil yourself in the name of selflove.
- Health concious choices: Follow Dincharya (daily regimen), Rutucharya (seasonal regimen), Aachaar rasayan and Sadvrutta (rules for general behaviour) to see a difference in your physical and mental faculties.
